Octave Mandolin Case - Wooden Hardshell

We have been asked about this for decades! Where can you buy a wooden hardshell case for an octave mandolin. For many years, our answer was, we don't know, or at least, not at a reasonable price. Sure you could buy something custom.

All that recently changed! And the price is pretty incredible consider what a niche product this is.

Now the catch is, this is made in very limited quantities and it is not always available. We don't sell this directly. With shipping calculated, we simply wouldn't be competitive on the price. You can order it below.

Herre is little backstory. For many years, the source for a good portion of Octave mandolins cases was a single guy. That's right, one person was making these things. That isn't so surprising considering the demand.  Anyway, he had been doing this for many years and unfortunately, he passed away.  This coincides with the shortage of cases. It has been around 5 years now, and then we see this pop onto the market. Hurray! You can finally order an octave mandolin case.

This is your standard wooden hard-shell case. It is made from multiply woods and covered in the common black tolex covering. There is foam padding and then a black plush lining. There is padding on the top, above the bridge area. The hardware is gold plated brass with one latch being lockable.

This case is for flat top Octave mandolins. If you have an Arch-top, it is not going to fit. The maximum length this will take is right at 34.5". If your octave mandolin is longer from the from the back to the tip of the headstock, it is not going to fit. The depth is right at 5" and the width is approximately 13-1/2". While there is no standard, this approximates the average flat top octave mandolin.

We hope this works out for you.

Wonder about this myself, if there is a hard case that can be suitable for an Eastman octave mandolin? The dimension of the Eastman is 12″ × 15 5/8″ × 1 27/32"
Find this question all over the internet, Strange that Eastman does not follow up on the need for a regular case?

Hi Scott,

This is meant for flat tops so I am not sure there would be enough Depth for the Eastman. This is not something I have had a chance to test and verify.

According to the measurements give, this looks like it will accomodate my Eastman MDO305. Can you confirm this before I order one? Thanks.

Hi Alan,

We don’t sell these directly, as this shipping expense is too high. We have a link about for Amazon. The usually have free shipping, which makes it a much better deal. I haven’t noticed anyone else selling them yet. It is a Carrion Brand, so and Carrion dealer could order one in for you.
