A new version of Eastman's popular MD515 Mandolin. This shares all the basic specs but offers a varnish finish. This is a hand applied finish in the style of a nice violin. Varnish is great for tone and adds a lot of character to the mandolin. You will see signs of brush marks for instance. This is not sloppy workmanship, that is just how most varnishes are done. They don't do a bunch of thick coats and then sand and buff. Again, think violin finish.
Other than the finish, the specs match the normal version. It does seem to have a more open tone compared to the nitro finished versions.
