Images of a Violin Without a Setup

March 25, 2016

Here we have an SV-50 violin, exactly as we receive them from the maker. This has not been setup.

Up first.. We pulled a violin out of a new shipment we received at our shop.

Let`s open the case:

A better view:

It is difficult to see in the image, but the tuning pegs are barely protruding into the peg hole on the peg box. Later these will be removed and correctly fitted so that the violin will stay in tune.

Violins spend weeks at sea on their way to America. The violin is exposed to extreme humidity during the trip. This trip is one of the reasons they are not setup by the maker. The violin should always be setup here in the USA. Too many changes take place if the violin is setup over seas and then shipped here. You may notice that there is silica gel in the case. Why the Silica Gel? To help keep the humidity under control during its journey to the USA.

The violin is now pulled out of the case and looked over for any defects or major problems that the setup will not take care of. This particular SV-50 looks good, so it is marked as ok and goes into inventory. Later it will go through our setup before being sold.
