Folkmusician receives many requests to setup mandolins purchased from other dealers. It just so happens that we have been doing this for years, but never publically offered the service. It was about time we got around to posting it on the website, so here it is. This is the same work done on each new mandolin that Folkmusician sells.
Setup is a broad term and everyone has a different idea of just what a setup entails. We are calling this our "full mandolin setup", which simply means that we will do everything possible to optimize your instrument for playability, and tone.
The things that set this apart from our standard mandolin setup will be in depth work on the bridge and frets. Most import mandolins (and the occasional domestic mandolin) will need the frets properly seated, leveled, crowned, ends filed, and the frets polished up. Bridge feet often do not get a good fit on the top and there may be string spacing issues. All of these areas are addressed in addition to standard setup steps.
On most mandolins, the difference will be huge, with improved action and a louder, fuller tone.
A setup is a very personal thing, and every mandolin and player requires a different approach. If you are interested in having your mandolin setup by Folkmusician, please give us a call or email us and we can discuss your needs.
Note: This service is performed free of charge on all new mandolins purchased from Folkmusician (unless specifically stated otherwise in the mandolin's description).
